The Old Gang is Back – Review of Season Break Season 5 Episode 1

I finally saw the first episode of Prison Break which I had hyped up a few days ago. Being a nostalgic guy, I was only half expecting it to be any good. I was just happy that most of the gang was back together. I fell off Prison Break in season 4 so I missed that whole thing about Micahel dying. As we see in the trailer, Michael has found himself in a new prison with new tattoos. He’s out in Yemen and manages to get word out to T-Bag. T-Bag is a Legend by the way. He has some of the best one liners. His quips are too funny. I really hope he’s not a slime bag in real life.

Anyway, back to the show. T-Bag finds Linc, Linc finds Sarah and C-Note and Sucre shows up as well. Of course there are people trying to kill Linc too (surprise surprise). I tried to keep the facts to a minimum so I can ramble on about what I think.

The first thing that occurred to me as I was watching was that they tried to stick to the same formula that won them critical acclaim in season 1. i.e. Michael being one step ahead, Linc being like Boxer from Animal farm, T-Bag for quips and comic relief, Sarah to tug at my heart strings with Sucre and C-Note being also rans. I wish Abruzzi (remember him) was still there. Fun fact T-Bag has a bionic hand! Can you believe that!

T-Bag has a Bionic Hand!

Initially I thought what is this rubbish? I’m not 18 anymore, Michael has put on more weight andhas grey hair, Linc is a shade slower, C-Note is a Muslim now and although Sarah looks the same, I expected them to take the show in a different direction. Now that I think of it, I can’t think of any direction they could have taken it that would make sense which is I guess why they ended the show in the first place.

In that vein then I guess it makes sense that they pressed the reset button so now I am not judging the show in comparison to the old prison break, I am judging it as a standalone show and with that, I didn’t see enough to wow me nor to turn me off which means I will be tuning in next week to see what happens. A lot of episode 1 was spent setting the scene up. I checked the preview for season 2 and I see one or two things that might make my heart beat a little faster!
